Youth Work

Work with Children and Families in Pickering Methodist Church

My name is Karen Pattison and I am employed by the church to work with Children, Young people and families.

I am in contact with the Playgroup, Rainbows, Brownies and Guides and help run the youth club WOW club, which meets alternate Wednesdays.

I also go into St Joseph’s school on Friday afternoons to help the children prepare an act of worship and go into the Junior school to help with Open the Book, which acts out Bible stories in assembly.

I am in the Library every Friday morning from 10.00 – 11.00 for story time and talk to parents and children there and am at Family Cinema every month to chat to the families who come to this.

I am organising a new project called FiSH – Food in School Holidays, providing a family meal on Friday lunchtimes 12.00 – 2.00, which I hope will give people a chance to chat and talk together while the children play or do activities together, because the Summer holidays can seem like a long and lonely time and often very expensive too. We provide this free but if people wish to make a donation, that will be gratefully received.

I am hoping to start other initiatives too, with the help and support of the schools in the area and look forward to telling you about these when the time comes.

All this is only possible through the power and grace of God and the support of His people, the Church. If you are interested in finding out more about the Church, contact me Karen: 01751 473004
