Youth Work

My name is Karen Pattison and I am employed by the church to work with children, young people and families.

Our most exciting new project is the Youth Bus which comes to the Eastgate car park on Mondays 7.00 – 8.30. This is a mobile Youth Club which comes from Scarborough and was arranged by Churches Together in the Pickering District.

I also help to raise money for FiSH – Food in School Holidays which raises money through Churches Together and works with the schools and Ryedale Food Bank to deliver lunch supplies in the school holidays for children who get free school meals in term time, but who may go hungry in the holidays without help.

I am in the Library every Friday morning from 10.00 for the Tots’ Story Time at 11.00 and to talk to parents and children there.

I am usually at Family Cinema every month to chat to the families who come to this. We are hoping to extend this in April to include Messy Church activities and a meal from 4pm so that families can attend Cinema afterwards, if they wish.

I am in contact with the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides who meet on our premises.

I also go into St Joseph’s school on Friday afternoons to help the children prepare an act of worship and go into the Primary schools to help with Open the Book, which acts out Bible stories in assembly.

I arranged visits to our church and St Joseph’s Catholic Church for year 8 pupils at Lady Lumley’s last year, just as the building work had started.

All this is only possible through the power and grace of God and the support of His people, the Church. If you are interested in finding out more about the Church, contact me Karen: 01751 473004
