In February 2018 we were asked by BBC Radio York to host their monthly “Cake and a Cuppa” event, which is a North Yorkshire-wide initiative to relieve loneliness and social isolation. The event was a huge success and was attended by over 150 people, many of whom met new people and have since become friends. We were asked if the event could be run on a regular basis so we have decided to hold our own “Cake and a Cuppa” on the 1st Friday each month, the first being on 1st June. The events will be completely free of charge – we hope however that people will leave small contributions towards our redevelopment fund.
In order to run the event every month we will need lots of support from people from church and in the town who can help with baking, tea and coffee making, washing up, meeting and greeting and just generally mucking in. Helping is in itself a great way to meet new people.
We will publicise the events each month during the preceding week in the local press, posters around town, BBC Radio York, this website and our Facebook page etc
